NBA Star Kyrie Irving‘s Dedication to Charity Remains Unwavering!

Back in June, the talented basketball player emerged as a prominent donor for Josephine Wright, a Hilton Head woman passionately battling corporate land developers’ relentless attempts to coerce her into selling her land. Kyrie Irving’s $40,000 donation on her GoFundMe made a significant impact.

In the GoFundMe page’s bio, Charise Graves, Josephine Wright’s granddaughter, reveals that their family requires over $350,000 to safeguard the 93-year-old’s beloved home. For the past three decades, Wright has dutifully owned and paid taxes on her property in South Carolina without any issues.

However, since the development company Bailey Point Investment acquired all the neighboring land, Graves claims her grandmother has endured continuous intimidation and harassment tactics after refusing their lowball offer of $39,000 for her property. Disturbingly, her house is now situated right in the midst of the 147-home subdivision that Bailey Point is actively constructing.

Graves shared on the GoFundMe page, “My name is Charise Graves, granddaughter to Mrs. Josephine Wright, and I am reaching out to you today because my 93-year-old grandmother, a resident of Hilton Head Island, SC for over 30 years, is in desperate need of your help. Bailey Point Investment, a greedy land development company, is trying to take her property away from her as her land is situated right in the middle of their new residential subdivision, currently under construction.”

She added, “This land has been in our family since the end of the Civil War and she has poured her heart and soul into maintaining the property for herself and her family to enjoy for generations to come.”

In the GoFundMe page’s bio, Graves sheds more light on the distressing ordeal her grandmother, Josephine Wright, faced after refusing to sell her home. Graves recounts that Wright’s house and car were continuously covered in dust from falling trees and construction, while her car tires were deliberately flattened. To add to the harassment, Wright even found a snake hanging on her window.

Regrettably, the situation took a legal turn when Bailey Point filed a lawsuit against Wright in February. They alleged that her screened-in porch, shed, and satellite dish encroached on their property. To resolve the matter, Wright had to spend $2,000 to remove the shed, even though the remaining property is at least 22 ft away from the road that Bailey Point owns. As if that wasn’t enough, the company is now challenging Wright’s ownership and seeking damages against her, further escalating the distressing situation.

She added, “just and adequate compensation for its losses, inconveniences, aggravation, unnecessary expenditures of time and efforts and disruptions.”

Nevertheless, Wright has responded by filing a countersuit. Legal documents indicate that Bailey Point has allegedly employed, “a consistent and constant barrage of tactics of intimidation, harassment, trespass, to include this litigation in an effort to force her to sell her property.”

Adding, “Wright…has been deprived of the peaceful enjoyment of her property, her property has been damaged and she has been threatened,”

According to Graves, the funds raised will be allocated towards covering legal expenses, property taxes, and installing fencing around the home to create a clear boundary between Wright and the developing community. As of now, the donation page has received an overwhelming response, with over 4,500 contributions, accumulating a total of over $250,000.

In addition to Kyrie Irving, other notable celebrities like Tyler Perry, Will Packer, Meek Mill, and Fantasia Barrino have expressed their solidarity with Wright’s cause.

Perry even shared a video of the landowner’s local news report, spreading awareness and support for the ongoing struggle, with a caption that reads, “I’ve pretty much been a fighter all my life” said 93 year old Josephine Wright. Well, that makes two of us. Ms. Wright, please tell where to show up and what you need to help you fight.

For Irving, supporting worthy causes through public donations is nothing new. As we reported back in November, the 31-year-old generously contributed $100,000 to the GoFundMe campaigns of Shanquella Robinson and Devin Chandler. Tragically, both individuals lost their lives in unrelated incidents, leaving a profound impact on many hearts.

With the aid of major donors like Irving, their families found some measure of relief from the financial strain that comes with losing a loved one. The same can be said for Wright, who expressed her heartfelt gratitude in a touching video, thanking everyone who has been supporting her unwavering fight for justice.
