Damar Hamlin, overcome with emotions, delivered a heartfelt tribute on July 12 at the ESPY Awards. He paid homage to the Buffalo Bills training staff for their life-saving actions when he experienced a cardiac arrest on the field during a game in January.

During the ceremony, the trainers were honored with the prestigious Pat Tillman Award for Service. This award commemorates the late Pat Tillman, a former Arizona Cardinals player who tragically lost his life in Afghanistan after leaving the NFL to serve in the Army following the September 11 terrorist attacks.

As Hamlin took the stage, he received a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience, which moved him to tears. The outpouring of support and recognition for his incredible journey left a profound impact on him.

Please welcome this year’s recipient of the Pat Tillman Award for Service: the training staff of the Buffalo Bills,” he said during the ceremony.

During a game against the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2, Damar Hamlin experienced a sudden collapse and cardiac arrest while making a tackle. The game was subsequently canceled, and Hamlin’s story garnered national attention as he underwent recovery from this alarming incident.

At the ESPY Awards, the Pat Tillman Award for Service was accepted by head trainer Nate Breske, accompanied by the Buffalo Bills training staff. Their crucial role in Hamlin’s life-saving recovery was recognized and honored during the ceremony.

Damar — first and foremost, thank you for staying alive, brother,” he said while delivering his speech.

Additionally, Breske expressed his desire for Hamlin’s story to generate greater awareness about the importance of recognizing and responding to cardiac emergencies.

If there is one thing we hope you take away from this tonight, learn CPR and how to use an AED because they save lives,” he said. “You don’t have to be perfect. We always say, doing something is better than doing nothing.

Hamlin, accompanied by the first responders and medical professionals who played a crucial role in saving his life, made a special appearance at the Super Bowl. Since his cardiac arrest, he has been unable to participate in games, but after receiving clearance in April, he intends to make a comeback.

He maintains a profound gratitude for his survival, fully aware of the immense fortune that has granted him a second chance at life.

Life is a precious gift. it’s a blessing to see another birthday. I can’t begin to explain the feelings,” he wrote on Instagram when he turned 25 in March. “(And) even if I could, you probably still wouldn’t know the half.. But ima enjoy this one a lil extra today!

Congratulations to trainers of the Buffalo Bills team!
