Tennis legend Serena Williams has joyously welcomed her second child, a baby girl, as announced by her husband on social media.
In a heartfelt message shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, introduced their newborn daughter with the words, “Welcome, Adira River Ohanian.” He further expressed his gratitude, sharing that their home is now brimming with love, thanks to the arrival of a healthy and content baby girl, alongside a happy and healthy mother.
Ohanian praised his wife, 41-year-old Serena Williams, with deep admiration, dubbing her the “GMOAT,” an affectionate acronym for the “Greatest Mother of All Time.” He accompanied his words with images capturing the radiant moments of Williams cradling their newborn, joined by Ohanian and their 5-year-old daughter, Olympia.
Expressing his gratitude to the medical team that cared for his wife and new daughter, Ohanian shared a touching moment when he introduced their older daughter Olympia to her new baby sister, which he referred to as a memory that will forever hold significance.
He ended his post caption with a verse from the Book of Isaiah, “Your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.”
Williams announced her intent to step away from tennis and focus on expanding her family in an essay featured in Vogue last August.
“I have never liked the word retirement,” Williams wrote. “Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution.”
“These days, if I have to choose between building my tennis résumé and building my family, I choose the latter,” she added.
Welcome to the world, Adira!
