Carlee Russell, aged 25, has been arrested and charged in connection with her kidnapping hoax that occurred earlier this month.

On July 13, she made a 911 call, claiming to have seen a toddler walking on Interstate 459 in Hoover. Following the call, Carlee disappeared for more than 49 hours, triggering an extensive search led by law enforcement and her community to locate her.

Finally, on Saturday, July 15, Carlee returned to her parent’s home on foot. During questioning by detectives, she alleged that she had been kidnapped by a man and a woman. However, subsequent investigation revealed her claim to be a hoax, leading to her arrest and charges.

Carlee Russell claimed that she successfully escaped and found her way back home.

Following the incident, the Hoover Police Department, in collaboration with the FBI and other agencies, conducted a comprehensive investigation, meticulously uncovering the truth behind Carlee’s deception, much like peeling back layers of an onion.

In the days that followed, Carlee Russell’s attorney conveyed her admission of falsehood. She confessed to fabricating the story about witnessing a child on the interstate and falsely claiming to have been kidnapped.

In a humbling plea, Carlee asked for forgiveness and prayers as she acknowledged the gravity of her actions.

Hoover Police Department Reveals Additional Information in Carlee Russell Case Following Exclusive NBC News Interview with Carlee’s Parents.

Following an exclusive interview conducted by Carlee’s parents, Talitha Robinson-Russell and Carlos Russell, with NBC News on Tuesday (July 18), the Hoover Police Department released a statement shortly thereafter.

The recently issued statement by the Hoover Police Department sheds light on previously undisclosed information, providing additional clarity on the timeline leading up to Carlee Russell’s disappearance on Thursday.

Moreover, the police elaborated on Carlee’s journey back home and shared further insights into the events that unfolded thereafter.

Here are some key points from the police statement:

Carlee’s Visit to Target

Following her departure from The Colonnade, Carlee made a stop at Target located on Highway 280. During her visit, she purchased various snack food items. Interestingly, these purchased items were not found in her vehicle, nor were they discovered alongside her cell phone and wig at the site where she went missing.

Absence of Toddler Evidence

The Hoover Police Department has conducted an extensive investigation and has found no trace of a toddler walking along the interstate. Additionally, no further reports were received regarding a toddler sighting on the interstate, despite the considerable number of vehicles captured by the traffic camera surveillance footage passing through that particular area.

Carlee Russell’s Independent Walk Home

Through their investigation, detectives have acquired surveillance footage from Carlee’s neighborhood, revealing her walking alone along the sidewalk before reaching her residence.

Emergency Response

Media outlets have obtained Fire Department radio recordings, indicating that emergency medical personnel were dispatched to Carlee’s home regarding an “unresponsive but breathing person.” Upon arrival, the first responders discovered Ms. Russell conscious and able to speak. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital in that state and later released after receiving medical treatment.

Evaluation of Evidence

The assessment of numerous pieces of evidence is still underway, crucial to unraveling the events that occurred during the approximately 49-hour period of Carlee Russell’s disappearance, as well as shedding light on the circumstances preceding her vanishing.

Upcoming Press Conference

The Hoover Police Department has scheduled a press conference on Wednesday, July 19, at 2:30 p.m. central time, where they will disclose further details regarding the case.
