Following an acid attack on another child at a Detroit park, a 12-year-old girl has been apprehended and is now facing multiple charges.

The victim, an 11-year-old named Dearia Summers, has been identified. According to Domonique Summers, Dearia’s mother, an altercation ensued between the 12-year-old assailant and Dearia’s cousin.

After the argument unfolded at Vernor Elementary School‘s playground, Deiara initially left the scene. However, upon her return to retrieve her purse, she became the target of the attack.

According to Domonique, the mother of the 12-year-old suspect was responsible for bringing the acid to the park, which was subsequently used in the attack.

As a result of the incident, Deaira sustained second and third-degree burns on her back, legs, and arms. She underwent a four-day stay in the burn unit of the Children’s hospital for treatment and recovery.

“How does a child even think to bring acid to a park? You don’t know what you did,” Summers said.

“I feel like it was the most evil thing you could do to a kid and especially the fact that she was an innocent bystander.”

As stated by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, the preteen has been charged with one count of assault with the intention to cause severe bodily harm and one count of felonious assault.

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy said in a statement, “This is an extremely troubling set of allegations. Instant horrible decision-making can have lifelong effects on others. There is no excuse for this.”

At the preliminary hearing, the 12-year-old was granted release upon posting a $10,000 bond with tether.

As of the time of this report, no charges have been filed against the 12-year-old’s mother.

Interestingly, the Detroit Police Department and the DPSCD are engaged in a back-and-forth situation, each seemingly hesitant to take responsibility for the investigation.

Deiara Summer’s grandmother, Debra Golston, has initiated a GoFundMe campaign with the aim of assisting the family in covering medical expenses and ongoing care.
